Island Lake Lodge Trail
Conditions July 11, 2012
General
Information: Trail checks and cleaning
is still in progress and snow can still be expected on the Spineback and the
Baldy trail. There have been
numerous wildlife sightings including moose, black bear and grizzly bear.
Rail
Trail
Beautiful sights and sounds next to Lizard Creek
with good views of the “Three Bears” peaks half way up the trail. Due to a mountain bike race from the
last weekend the first half of this trail is in variable condition, the second
half is in good condition.
Old
Growth Trail
Shady old growth cedars and lush interior rainforest
plants make this trail a local favorite.
Stay bear aware. Some black
bear families have been enjoying the old growth forest. Trail is in good
condition.
Lake
Trail
Come and observe a cow moose with newborn calves swim
across the water from the island to the shore. There is also a bull moose
hanging around; however please be respectful of wildlife and stay at a safe
distance. Trail is in good condition.
Fir
Trail
This family oriented trail has some of the biggest
Douglass Fir, Tamarack and Western Red Cedar trees that Island Lake has on its
propriety. Trail is in good condition.
Tamarack
Trail
Trail is accessible to the top with a few patches of
snow. There is snow at the top near the staircase that leads to the viewpoint;
however there is blue flagging showing the way through this moraine, gully
feature. Keep your eyes open for Glacier Lilies and Calypso Orchids.
Baldy
Loop
Trail is clear from snow on the North Baldy side
(side facing the lodge). You will find your way to the
top; however the second half portion (West side of
Baldy) still has snow cover which makes route
finding challenging. The complete loop is open to
guided hikes; otherwise it makes for a beautiful hike up and down North
Baldy.
Spineback
Trail
We have not completed trail checks on this trail
yet. There will certainly be significant snow on this trail. Not recommended at this time.
