Fernie, British Columbia. March 21st, 2011 – Island Lake Catskiing extends its winter operating season.

Island Lake Catskiing has been having an amazing snow year.  The consolidated base in the alpine is around 5.5 metres or 18 feet of snow.  “With the extraordinary amount of snow we have, it only makes sense to keep on running into April” says Mike McPhee from Island Lake Catskiing.  The resort will run an extra multi-day trip April 3-6 and be running day skiing until at least April 7^th.   “If you have not had enough snow yet and enjoy sunny spring skiing, give us a call”. Added McPhee

Island Lake Catskiing in Fernie B.C. has been a backcountry ski industry leader for over 20 years.

Over 5.5 metres of snow

Island lake catskiing has had over 200 cms of snow in the last 2 weeks (7 feet).  This brings our consolidated base in the alpine to over 5.5 metres or about 18 feet of snow.  Wow indeed...an incredible winter that just keeps on giving.

Huge Storm Hits Island Lake Catskiing

Well- I did not think this season could get any better, but we are currently in the middle of a huge snow storm.  In the last 3 day we have had 80 cms of light, dry champagne powder.  It looks like the snow will continue for at least the next few days as well.  Our base at 2000 metres elevation is over 400 cms now. Wow is right.  Keep it coming Ullar.   Its time you experienced Catskiing in BC.

Hiking in the Rockies around Fernie BC

It might seem like a weird time of year to think of this, but I was going through some summer photos yesterday and remembering some of the great hiking we did last summer.  Though Island Lake is best know for powder skiing and snowboarding, the summer time is also spectacular.  We have some of the best hiking trails in the Fernie area right here around the lodge and some of the best hiking in the Rocky Mountains

More powder snow for you!!

Down here at Island Lake Catskiing have had about 50 cms of the good ol powder snow in the last 3 days.  This on top of a consolidated base of about 350 cms means super good conditions!!  I am looking out my office window (someone has to work in the office) and it is currently snowing about 3 cms an hour.  The Fernie effect is on!!!
You probably need to go catskiing in BC one of these days...
