After a mid-January high pressure system moved on, we have received over 50 cms in 48 hours and almost a metre for the week. Ullar has smiled upon Fernie and Island Lake Catskiing and given the white bounty all week long. The forecast is for even more snow over the next couple of days. Lets get catskiing!!
Our new book Bears Above the Valley is a history of catskiing and snowboarding at Island lake Lodge. The book is full of great photos and antidotes about all the industry leaders that made Island Lake one of the most famous snow destinations around. Craig Kelly and Scot Schmidt both have interesting sections and a bunch of awesome photos. Famed ski writer Leslie Anthony wrote the forward. The book also covers the storied history of the Cedar Valley itself - from early explorers to gun slinging loggers. The book not only follows the history of Island Lake, but the ski and snowboard industries as well. Some of the industries biggest players wrote new chapters right here at Island Lake Lodge Catskiing. The book is on sale in various places across North America including Chapters, Barns & Noble and Amazon
Wow what a week! We have witnessed a lot of storms at Island lake Catskiing, but this week has been nothing short of surreal. Day after day of perfect temps and pounding snow. The 1 week storm total is now at over 2 metres or 6.5 feet. The cold, low density snow is true "over the head blower pow". This is the biggest pre-Christmas storm anyone can remember and is making for an extra white holiday season. Get out and enjoy the conditions! www.islandlakecatskiing.com
We have had over 130 cms during the last 4 days. Low density over the head blower pow. The current storm shows no sign of giving up either. Catski conditions are as good as they get. Even our powder saturated guides are saying things like "unreal" and "all-time". What a start to the season!
